The 4 Cs & how they affect your Diamond Engagement Ring
The 4Cs is an industry-followed quality system regarding 4 different pillars of diamond quality.
Cut- Your diamond’s cut quality directly affects its durability, sparkle, and a balanced shape. Poorly cut diamonds will appear dull and can compromise its structure. It’s not necessary to have the highest cut quality, but you should avoid diamonds with poor cut quality.
Colour- In colourless diamonds, the colour refers to the presence of yellow tint in the diamond. A diamond’s colour grade is found within the D-Z range. DEF diamonds are colourless, with no detectable yellow tint. GHIJ diamonds are called near colourless, with a slight hint of yellow tint. Yellow tint in a diamond is more common, so colourless diamonds are more valuable and can be more expensive.
Clarity- All diamonds come into contact with impurities during the formation process. Sometimes trace elements enter it and other times other mineral crystals form inside. We call these inclusions, or clarity characteristics. The heat and pressure it takes for a diamond to form also produce these. A diamond’s clarity grade is how noticeable the inclusions are when viewed under 10x magnification. The clarity grades are as follows:
Flawless (F), Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1, VVS2), Very Slightly Included (VS1, VS2), Slightly Included (SI1, SI2), Included (I1, I2, I3)
Every diamond has its own unique placement of inclusions, and no other diamond is like it. Clarity characteristics make each diamond truly one-of-a-kind.
Carat Weight- Carats are the unit of measurement we use when talking about diamonds. Most often carat weight is thought of as the size of the diamond. However, different diamond shapes of the same carat weight may appear larger than another because the carat weight is distributed differently.
Choosing your dream engagement ring should be an exciting adventure, and RING Jewellers want to help you make it one you’ll never forget. We invite you to browse our catalogue to see our engagement ring creations or contact us to craft the bespoke engagement ring you’ve always desired.
Our natural Diamonds have been independently graded by the GIA, world renowned as the strictest grading lab in the world. Customers can enter their cert number (from the cert itself or sometimes from the laser engraving on the girdle of the Diamond) into the GIA’s website to check the details of their Diamond.
