Frequently asked questions

Does white gold tarnish?

What most people mistake for white gold tarnishing is actually its true colour coming through as a plating called ‘Rhodium’ wears off. The natural colour of white gold varies from shop to shop & it can sometimes be an unattractive yellowy brown colour. At RING jewellers though we use superior alloys & do not plate our white gold. We are one of very few jewellers in the world to do this so our white gold never changes colour – ever!

Which metal wedding ring should I choose to go alongside my diamond engagement ring?

Different metals have different strengths & becuase you do not want to damage your engagement ring you need something of a similar strength. Here’s our guide:

Platinum engagement ring = Platinum or Palladium wedding ring

18ct white gold engagement ring = 18ct white, yellow, or rose gold wedding ring

18ct yellow gold engagement ring = 18ct yellow, white or rose gold wedding ring

18ct rose gold engagement ring = 18ct rose, yellow, or white gold wedding ring

Silver engagement ring = Silver wedding ring

Is bespoke jewellery expensive?

Many jewellery shops are not really geared up for designing & making bespoke jewellery so they end up subcontracting out your commission to another jeweller. This means that two jewellers now need to make a profit & you are charged more. Also, unusual requests from a client (like a rare gemstone) can be hard to find for a shop that usually buys pre-made jewellery from a supplier & they can overpay for materials. At RING jewellers though we make most things we sell so we know how to make each piece in an economical way without compromising on metal & stone weight qualities. Our savings are passed on to our customers so they pay the same for a one-off bespoke piece of jewellery as they do for an item from our windows.
