Jewellery Remodelling

Jewellery remodelling is an option that people don’t always consider…

Many of our customers have inherited jewellery that is not their style. It seems a shame to sell it but at the same time it feels pointless leaving it stuck in the bottom of a drawer. This is where jewellery remodelling comes in! As well as inherited jewellery we can also remodel broken or simply unworn pieces for you.

Did you know that secondhand jewellers only pay between 25%-33% of the value of your old jewellery?

This is why jewellery remodelling is such a great option. Obviously you have to pay for the new commission but once you have, you end up with a piece you will love that is worth as much or even more than the original piece. By selling your old jewellery to a jeweller & buying a new piece you are effectively downgrading your jewellery. Here’s an example of what happens when you choose to sell your old jewellery to a secondhand jewellery store vs remodelling it:

Scenario 1: A lady inherits a Diamond ring from her grandmother. It is not her style & she would never wear it but wants a kepsake to remind her of her gran. The ring has an replacement value of £2,000. She sells the ring to a secondhand jeweller & they pay her just £500. She buys a new ring & has effectively downgraded her jewellery.

Scenario 2: The same lady brings the ring she inherited from her gran to RING jewellers to remodel it. She pays £500 to reset it into a new mount that she loves. Not only is the new ring set with the actual Diamonds her grandmother wore all those years ago, but it has a replacement value of over £2,000. This means it makes both sentimental & financial sense!

What types of jewellery to people get remodelled?

  • Inherited jewellery that has sentimental value but is not their style
  • Broken, hollow jewellery that’s not economical to repair (like Gold hoop earrings)
  • Unwanted engagement rings to remodel & symbolise a fresh start
  • Diamond jewellery that repeatedly has stones falling out
  • Family jewellery to divide among siblings (ie mum has a Diamond 3 stone & we make 3 seperate pendants for her children)
  • Old engagement rings that were purchased when the couple’s budget were tight are brought in for an ‘upgrade’. For example the central Diamond can be used as a shoulder stone in a new 3 stone Diamond ring. Or the original Diamond can be remodelled into a Halo engagment ring design as in these examples: Jewellery remodelled into halo rings.

So what can RING jewellers do when it comes to jewellery remodelling?

  • Unset your Diamonds & other gemstones & set them into a totally new piece
  • Melt & reuse your old yellow gold
  • Create a new design that is a nod to the original, or something totally different like making a contemporary ring from a traditional pendant!
  • Take your leftover precious metal as part payment to reduce the cost of the new commission
  • Return leftover gemstones to use at a later date or to gift to family members

What is not possible?

  • We cannot turn yellow gold into white gold but we would be happy to take your old gold as part payment & supply new white gold or platinum as in these examples: Jewellery remodelled to change the colour of the metal.
  • Although we can melt & reuse actual Silver the labour far outweighs the finished article (this doesn’t apply to other precious metals) . We would still be happy to do this for you but do bear in mind it costs much more than new Silver jewellery & is only worth doing if the old Silver is particularly sentimental as in this example: Sentimental Silver cutlery set remodelled into jewellery for a whole family!
  • We rarely take gemstones in part payment but you can always ask when you send/bring us your jewellery.
