Meeting House Lane The Lanes Brighton

Brighton, with its eclectic charm and vibrant atmosphere, is renowned for its thriving jewellery scene. The narrow lanes that wind through the heart of the city are adorned with an array of exquisite jewellery shops, each offering their own unique collections and styles. In this article, we will delve into the reasons behind the city’s abundance of jewellers, explore the affordability vs Hatton Garden jewellers, discuss how to find a reputable jeweller, and highlight why RING jewellers is a preferred choice for discerning customers.

Why are there so many jewellers in Brighton?

Brighton’s reputation as a hub for jewellery craftsmanship can be attributed to its rich history and artistic allure. The city has long been a magnet for artists, artisans, and creative minds, and the jewellery industry is no exception. Historically The Lanes was more known for it’s antique shops but in the late 1980’s the tide shifted from antique stores towards independent jewellers. The vibrant atmosphere & diverse culture has inspired numerous jewellers to establish their businesses in Brighton. Additionally, the city’s thriving tourism industry provides a steady stream of customers seeking unique and handcrafted jewellery, further fuelling the growth of the jewellery sector.

Is Hatton Garden jewellery cheaper?

Hatton Garden is located in London. This means that although the overheads in Brighton are far from cheap, they are nowhere near the high prices of London rents & rates. This means that in a like for like comparison Hatton Garden jewellers are not cheaper according to many visitors to Brighton. Another factor when comparing Hatton Garden Jewellers to The Lanes Brighton jewellers is variety. In London there are a lot of ‘findings’ companies selling ready-made rings & mounts. This means lots of stores stock very similar rings that were all bought from local suppliers. The Lanes in Brighton on the other hand, comprises exclusively of actual jewellery stores rather than casting houses & findings companies. This means the Brighton jewellery shops seem to have more variety according to the feedback we get from customers. In The Lanes you will find antique jewellers, second hand jewellers & contemporary bespoke jewellers like RING jewellers who have some of the best reviews in the whole country!

How do I find a reputable jeweller?

Finding a reputable jeweller among such a huge choice of jewellery shops in Brighton is crucial when making a significant investment in jewellery. Here are some key factors to consider:

  1. Reputation and Experience: Look for jewellers with a solid reputation and years of experience in the industry. Seek recommendations from friends, family, or trusted sources, and read online reviews to gauge the experiences of previous customers.
  2. Quality and Craftsmanship: A reputable jeweller will prioritise using high-quality materials and demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship in their designs. Inquire about their sourcing practices, certifications, and guarantees on the materials used like GIA Diamond certification.
  3. Customisation and Personalisation: If you desire a unique and personalised piece of jewellery, choose a jeweller who offers a full bespoke services. A reputable jeweller will work closely with you to bring your vision to life while maintaining high standards of quality. Beware of a jeweller heavily promoting only one kind of jewellery because this usually means they just want you to buy what they have rather than giving you options.
  4. Transparency and Communication: A trustworthy jeweller will provide clear and transparent information about their products, pricing, and any associated services. They should be willing to address your queries and guide you through the purchasing process with professionalism and integrity.
  5. Pricing: Never buy on price alone! Many store elevate their prices purely to slash them. Ask yourself if a ring is priced at £4,000 & you have just been offered in for £2,500 what is the reason? Jewellery doesn’t have a sell by date like food so was the original price ever genuine?

Which brand of jewellery is best?

The notion of the “best” brand of jewellery is subjective and depends on individual preferences, style, and budget. Some well-regarded brands with a great reputation include Graff, Cartier, Bulgari, and Chopard. These brands are known for their timeless elegance, use of high-quality materials, and innovative manufacturing techniques.

Never underestimate the price you pay for the brand name though. Everyone expects to pay a little more for a designer piece but the price difference can be shocking. The thing to remember is that an independent jeweller has access to the same materials as a large brand. If a brand states that they use only the top 3 colour grades of Diamond don’t forget these same stones are available to an independent jeweller with good contacts. The same goes for the different precious metals.

Craftsmanship can vary a lot more so look for an independent jeweller with outstanding reviews (some of the top brands actually hide their Google reviews so they can be harder to judge). At the time or writing this the of all the 40 jewellers in Brighton the one with the best reviews on Google is RING jewellers.

A wonderful world of independent jewellers

As you can see The Lanes in Brighton has a wonderful selection of independent jewellery stores. It’s not just the Brighton jewellers that make this area well worth a visit though. There are many other independent restaurants, bars & shops too selling; clothes, books, records, homewares & much more. So, why not pay Brighton a visit? You will not be disappointed.

Top tips when travelling to The Lanes in Brighton

Parking – It can take a while to park & it can be expensive for a long stay. Aim for Churchill Square car park off of West St. This works out cheaper than other places like The Lanes car park & the parking on the seafront. It also usually has less of a queue (note we said “less of” & not “no queue”!)

Trains – Many people choose to leave the car at home & take the train. There are trains direct from London Victoria with many taking under an hour. There are also trains direct to Brighton from London Bridge.

Take your time & enjoy you trip – As there are so many jewellers in Brighton some can be a little over zealous in their efforts to tempt you in. Never feel pressured & beware of huge discounts. As mentioned above ask yourself was the pre-discounted price ever genuine?

If you haven’t visited The Lanes already do take time to pay them a visit, you won’t be disappointed! And, if you do, be sure to pop into RING jewellers to say hello & ask any jewellery related questions you may have.
