Thread and grain set diamonds are when diamonds are set using small grain of metal or with wire threads that secure them to create a uniform sparkle. The soft tapering of the shoulders offer more noticeability to the centre diamond. 

Rubover settings are characterised by the metal rim surrounding the centre stone. While the rim provides a smooth appearance and extra protection, some light return is inhibited by the extra metal. In this rubover setting, the metal rim is thinner, allowing more light in than a traditional rubover setting.
