Which finger is the engagement ring worn on?
In the UK, as with many other Western countries, an engagement ring is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand AKA the left ‘ring finger’.
The tradition of wearing an engagement ring (& subsequent wedding ring) on this finger dates back to the Ancient Romans. They believed this finger had a vein called the ‘Vena Amoris’ (vein of love) that ran directly to the heart. The romantic idea of an engagement ring being worn on this finger that leads straight to the heart is where the tradition began.
