Are lab grown Diamonds worth it?

Are lab grown Diamonds worth it?

Are lab grown Diamonds worth it?

The answer to this is a definite yes. Many people ask “How much cheaper is a lab grown Diamond compared to the equivalent natural Diamond?”. The answer is the larger the stone, the larger the saving. A small lab grown will be about half the price of a natural Diamond. Once you reach a Diamond weight of 1.00ct or over though, the saving can be thousands of pounds between a lab grown Diamond & a natural stone.

Some traditional jewellers will try scaremongering tactics like telling customer’s that a lab grown Diamond has little or no resale value. There are a couple of important things to consider when you hear comments like this though…..

Firstly, do you intend to sell your/your partner’s engagement ring? I’m guessing the answer is most likely no. This makes that comment not only untrue, but irrelevant.

Next, do you know the resale value of a natural Diamond? What the same jeweller that tells you not to buy a lab grown Diamond fails to mention is that they only buy back natural Diamonds for between 25%-33% of what they charge you!

This simple example explains why the answer to the question “Are lab grown Diamond worth it?” is a definitely yes…..

Customer A) buys a 1.00ct natural Diamond engagement ring of a very high grade. He pays £10,000 for the ring. Unfortunately, the engagement doesn’t work out, so he sells it on to a secondhand jewellery store. They pay him £2,500. He has lost £7,500.

Customer B) also buys a 1.00ct Diamond engagement ring of a very high grade. This Diamond is Lab grown. This customer pays £2,500. This engagement is also broken off (not having much luck are they these fictional customers?). Customer B) sells his lab grown engagement ring to a secondhand jeweller. The jeweller doesn’t really know about lab grown stones & so he pays an incredibly cautious low offer of £400 valuing the ring mainly for it’s 18ct Gold setting. Customer B) has lost £2,100.

So which you you rather lose £7,500 or £2,100? This proves that the answer to the question “Are lab grown Diamonds worth it?” Is a resounding yes. The other moral of the story is do not buy an engagement ring as an investment. Instead buy it as a ring your partner will love & cherish.
